Wow, until last week I was getting around 10 spam comments per day on this blog, which was manageable, so I didn’t bother looking for a solution.

Buut, this week I’ve had around 200 spam comments per day! Fwooow! Does that mean I’m popular? Hahah.

So anyway, I looked in the Typo (version 5) Settings -> “Spam Protection”, and found that Typo offers good features, all-of-which I have enabled:

  • “Enable spam protection” - “typo compare the IP address of posters as well as the contents of their posts against local and remote blacklists. Good defense against spam bots.”
  • Akismet ( spam filtering API.
  • DON’T “Allow non-ajax comments” - in other words, only clients capable of running javascript’d AJAX can post comments.

I imagine this will protect against most of type of spam I was getting.

Initially I wanted an ugly CAPTCHA plugin for typo, but I’m already starting to change my mind :-D
