I was having hassles trying to boot my new M1330 from an external USB drive (Sony dual layer DVD-RW thing); the device simply was not appearing in the F12 boot menu.
Google gave me a whole much of forum posts of people having this same problem, but no solution.
I found by disabling the internal optical drive, the USB drive would then appear in the F12 boot menu. It shows as a “CD/DVD-RW etc” device, exactly the same name as the internal optical drive. So my guess is that the BIOS goes crazy when there is two boot devices with the same name in the list.
So the full BIOS settings I required to boot from USB drive are:
- External USB ports - Enabled
- Module Bay Device - Off
- USB Emulation - Enabled
